The Body Snatchers

It’s 1956, Allied Artists has just secured the rights to the novel “The Body Snatchers”; in February, the same year and with a very limited budget even for those times, the Californian producers would release one of the most iconic science-fiction movies of all times, “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”.

The plot: Dr Bennell tells colleague Dr Hill that the town of Santa Mira has been invaded by aliens. Growing inside enormous pods, these alien visitors replace humans during sleep and become perfect replicas with glazed eyes no emotions or thoughts. Bennel tries to alert the town but no one believes him. Catastrophe ensues.

I wonder if you have ever felt like Bennell. It happens to us al the time. You see strange thing, sometimes incredible, try to alert others but no one cares or -worse- you find you are already talking to a replica.

So what is the pod alert level now?

Just a few days ago, we were reading on Facebook that a friend recommended shopping on  skateboard -with added pictures. Apart from the oddity, we don’t believe that our faithful friend and companion of adventures as younger men (we shall call him John) is now calling himself an influencer and has joined the ranks of those with nothing to say who cannot shut up anyway.

Have we really reached the point when thought has become so weak that any trash idea can survive and prosper?

There are thousands of such examples, it is true, but this particular one is really close to our heart and makes us wander if John has been replaced in his sleep by a replica grown inside a hyperspace pod.

It is the only possible explanation.

Therefore, we sound the pod alert like Dr Bennell and we tell you now that the invasion has begun.

However, there is still time. Let’s push these invaders back into deep space, let’s remove the plastic masks and throw the invaders down the drain; let’s take back those intellectual spaces which should be ours and go back to a pre-invasion reality. But most of all -please- let’s stop making stupid people famous.

We are the resistance. From the low frequencies of our secret HQ, we will fight and never stop looking for you, to recruit those of you who have heard the alert and want to join the fight.

We find you interest interesting.

Stand by.
